Hon. Njai actively participated in negotiations aimed at securing regional representation within PUIC Standing Committees.
At the core of the conference was the Consultation Meeting of the African Group, where Hon. Njai served as The Gambiaโs chief negotiator, engaging with counterparts from across the continent to build consensus around regional representation within PUIC organs. Amid rigorous dialogue and strategic diplomacy, The Gambia secured places on the Committee on Political Affairs and the Committee on Women and Gender a significant advancement that places our nation at the center of decision-making on critical issues of governance, equity, and development. This Positions The Gambia as a credible and committed partner in global dialogue.
Fellow delegates from the Gambia also took part in various Standing Specialized Committee meetings, including observing the Economic Affairs and Environment Committee, where member states shared insights on strategies for sustainable development and economic cooperation. It is worth noting that The Gambia previously held a seat on the Economic Affairs Committee.
Beyond institutional matters, delegation also participated in a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Palestinian Parliament, reinforcing The Gambiaโs principled stance on justice, peace, and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
As part of the Standing Specialized Committee (SSC) meetings, The Gambia observed proceedings of the Economic Affairs and Environment Committee, where member states exchanged ideas on promoting sustainable development and economic cooperation across OIC countries.
Hon. K k Barrow head of delegation participated in the 53rd Meeting of the PUIC Executive Committee, where members adopted the agenda, reviewed the Secretary Generalโs report, and updated the draft agendas of key PUIC organs, including the Standing Committees on Political Affairs, Economic Affairs, Human Rights and Family, and the Committees on Palestine and Muslim Minorities.
The delegation then held a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Palestinian Parliament. The Gambian side expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine and reiterated the National Assemblyโs support for lasting peace and justice in the region.
Hon. Njai later joined the rest of the delegation for the final sessions of the 19th PUIC Conference on Thursday, 15 May. Key activities included the adoption of resolutions during the Work Session and contributions to the Closing Session, where member states formalized outcomes on political, economic, and human rights priorities.
Moving forward, we will do our best to position the gambia into the executive Commitee.
Through diplomacy grounded in values and vision, We will rewrite the story of youth in leadership placing The Gambia at the heart of international policy discourse.
